How to prepare Shopify for Black Friday / Cyber Monday

People love deals, they love getting them, telling all their friends about them which means “free” marketing for your products. Do you have the tools and workflows implemented into your site to take advantage of online’s biggest shopping season?

Where to start? Well there’s 3 states:

  1. Where were you?
  2. Where are you?
  3. Where do you want to be?

Where were you?

Have a look at last year’s analytics around these dates (Friday, November 29 – December 2). All the important stuff like sales, conversions, abandoned carts, bounce rates etc… Shopify’s analytics are great but if you have google analytics with sales funnels, bonus!

Take note of all these goodies and on to the next step.

Where are you now?

Take a look at the same things and compare then and now. Better or worse? Figure out what changed, what worked and what didn’t.

If you did worse, you have some work to do. If you did better you still have some work to do, albeit less.

Where do you want to be?

Also knows as setting goals. Start with the obvious ones such as:

  • Anything that’s in the red, you want to get it into the green.
  • Where are people bouncing, fix that?
  • Abandoned carts, fix that.
  • Page load times slow? Fix that, very important!
  • Does your site simply suck? Ask me, I’ll give you my brutally honest opinion.

It’s best to set smaller incremental goals because if you’ve made 50k last year, 60k this year but you want that golden million next year, that’s not going to happen. But then again, depends on what you’re selling, what your budget is for marketing and branding.

Do you have returning customers? Thank them, give them candy. Wether that be discount, free swag or referral bonuses. There are many ways to show customers appreciation. Remember if people love your product, a little push will help them tell their friends and so on and so forth.

If you have a decent product, you’re passionate and 100% set to do this for the long haul I would love to help you with all these things, please get in touch.
